Introduction

There is lots of work to get involved with in Wales. The Greener Primary Care Wales network is a large network of primary care workers active in this area working with the Welsh government, RCGP and Public Health amongst others.
This is not a ‘Greener Practice’ group but it performs a similar role.
Please sign up to this netwrok specifically through their website rather than through Greener Practice – though you can of course access all the other Greener Practice benefits through joining us as a member too, and the two compliment each other well.
If you want to share your ideas and innovations for becoming a greener primary care practice, you can join Gwella, a free peer support network designed to bring like-minded teams together. To join Gwella, email greenerprimarycare@wales.nhs.uk
What Greener Primary Care Wales does
Healthy Environment Workshop
Public Health Wales’ Health and Sustainability Hub has produced this toolkit to support Public Bodies and their staff to consider and reduce their negative impacts on the environment, and increase those activities that have a positive impact.
The online workshop allows teams to discuss the big issues of climate change, zero waste and biodiversity and looks at the activities of the whole team as well as individuals within the team. It is suitable for every team in an organisation, not just those who focus on sustainability, as everyone can make a positive contribution.
Welsh Greener Impact for Health Toolkit
In 2022, Primary Care Division and Public Health Wales set up a Welsh Greener Impact for Health toolkit, so that it abides by Welsh legislation. This Framework can help independent primary care contractors (general practices, community pharmacies, optometric practices and dental practices) improve their sustainability and environmental impact.
Winners at the NHS Welsh Sustainability Awards
In 2024 the National NHS Welsh Sustainability Conference and Awards ceremony was launched to celebrate sustainability across NHS Wales.
The team behind the Greener Primary Care Wales Framework and Award Scheme were delighted to win the ‘Healthier Wales’ award at the ceremony!
