Medical Students
Medical Curriculum
We are working with universities across the country to improve planetary health awareness in medical training. The Planetary Health Report Card was recently completed by a number of medical schools to benchmark current activity and show areas where improvements could be made.

Electives and Placements
Greener Practice has been working with universities including the University of Sheffield to help run Student Selected Component (SSC) placements for students.
“I didn’t realise how much of an impact I could make as a student.”
“This is the future of healthcare. I want to be part of that.”
“I had a real role in the team. We researched, presented, made plans – it felt empowering.”
Experiences from students in Sheffield on their SSC placement
We have worked with the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) to run elective placements for students working with Greener Practice. Find out more about the sustainable healthcare elective opportunities and how to apply through CSH here.
‘It’s been a pleasure working with the team at Greener Practice. I have learned so much about sustainable healthcare on this elective, and I feel empowered to implement more sustainable practices, such as SusQI, into my career in the future. I would recommend undertaking a medical elective with CSH and Greener practice to all medical students’

GP Trainees
RCGP Curriculum
Greener Practice has supported the RCGP to write a Population and Planetary Health Chapter to the GP training curriculum. This can be used as a basis for tutorials, trainee-delivered teaching or to support a quality improvement project with a sustainability focus (see below).
Planetary health guide
Greener Practice have worked with Bradford VTS to produce this resource explaining the relationships between planetary health and human health, and our role in this as doctors. It contains a wealth of information as well as resources which could be used in tutorials or teaching sessions.
Join the Trainee Forum
The Greener Practice trainee forum is an active group of over 200 GP trainees. It supports doctors undergoing GP training to improve planetary health education and to collaborate in learning, leadership and practice. They have a dedicated mailing list and a Whatsapp group, and run regular sessions tailoured to GP trainees. You can read more and sign up here.
Allied Health Professionals
Greener Practice welcomes all primary care health professionals in training including nurses, pharmacists and other members of the allied healthcare team. If there are any initiatives you think we can promote or signpost to please get in touch.

Sustainable Quality Improvement
Undertaking a Quality Improvement Project (QIP) is part of many training pathways, including General Practice. As well as improving care, they are opportunities to assess and improve the environmental, social and financial impact of the planned intervention, the so-called triple bottom line. The Centre for Sustainble Healthcare’s SusQI website has a wealth of resources to help get you started. We also have a guide available in our resource library, and tried-and-tested interventions in our project library. Our Asthma Toolkit QIPs can also help your GP practice achieve targets in the PCN DES Investment and Impact Fund. A further source of inspiration is the Green Impact toolkit for Health.

The Centre for Sustainable healthcare runs courses suitable for trainees and students.
