Introduction
GrPY&NY is all about supporting and encouraging everyone in primary care in York and North Yorkshire to work more sustainably. We want to celebrate success as well as identify opportunities and most importantly forge a network of folk in primary care who want to embrace sustainable change.

Co-chair: Dr. Matt Sawyer
Former GP Matt works full-time in environmental sustainability in primary care. Have a look at his ‘See Sustainability’ website. He also wrote and co-edited a book called ‘Environmentally Sustainable Primary Care’
Co-chair: Dr. Rumina Önaç
GP & GP trainer in York, creator of many fabulous resources hosted on her website – The Greening Of Life!
How we work
We meet regularly, have WhatsApp and email groups and host resources on our Trello board https://trello.com/b/CZN8nF91/our-resource-hub (a bit like a webpage).
We meet roughly monthly (x10 meetings a year) online and vary our meeting times to try and accommodate everyone who wants to come along at some point.
What we do
Since 2024, we have themed our meetings around – ‘How practicing sustainable primary care improves patient care and health and/or improves staff morale and wellbeing and/or saves practices money’.
We have had sessions on ‘Uncertainty, Probability and Over treatment’, ‘Switching the practice bank account’ (away from fossil fuels) and many other topics. Recordings are accessible on our Trello board.
