Greener Practice North East ran an excellent webinar in July 2025 on ‘Setting up a sustainability Medical Student Selected Component (SSC) placement’. SSCs offer students the chance to spend longer in an area of interest. It offers us a brilliant opportunity to introduce more students (and GPs) to sustainable medicine as well as financial incentives for the host practice.

This was an informative and inspiring talk from Professor Hugh Alberti, Dr Honey Smith and Dr Jake Shepard, all of whom have extensive experience in general practice, teaching and have run sustainability themed SSCs for medical students, taking different approaches.
